Walcott 2009 was a special conference on the Cambrian explosion to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Burgess Shale by Charles Doolittle Walcott. We welcomed over 150 geologists, palaeontologists, geochemists, biologists and historians of geology to technical sessions addressing the profound organismal, ecological and environmental changes that occurred during the Precambrian-Cambrian transition.

The meeting was held at the Banff Centre, with technical sessions taking place from August 4–6th, 2009. The resort town of Banff, located about 125 km west of Calgary, Alberta, is one of the most scenic spots in the Canadian rocky Mountain National Parks and is only 80 km away from the discovery site of the Burgess Shale (near Field, British Columbia).

We are delighted to announce that the schedule of presentations and list of accepted abstracts are available for public viewing.
